best practices for the longevity of your rug
Clean & Care FAQs
Annual Maintenance Guidelines for Rug Care
Rugs exposed to direct sunlight will fade over time, even if fade-resistant. To
balance color & evenly distribute wear, rotate your rug every 6-12 months.
Professional cleaning services should be used at least once a year before your rug begins to show soil and wear.
Regular Maintenance Guideline for Rug Care
Vacuum rug at least once a week to keep loose dirt from accumulating and embedding deep into fibers. Embedded dirt & soil will cause fiber crushing damage under foot traffic.
DO NOT VACUUM WITH A BEATER BAR!
Beater Bars should never be used on handmade rug products. The rotating bristle bars will cause permanent damage & distortion to the yarn fibers. Many of today’s vacuums are super high powered.
The high suction can pull out the threads from the back of the carpet or rug causing sprouts and excessive fuzzing.
Avoid Oreck or Dyson vacuums for these reasons. Care and Maintenance Tearsheet
Spills & Stains
The best way to remove a stain is to tend to it immediately before it sets in. Using a white cloth, blot up as much as the liquid stain as possible. If rug was fiber protected, immediate blotting will be all that’s required.
Household cleaning products to keep on hand:
1. Dawn liquid dishsoap (or similar ) PH Balanced & safe to use on wool and other
fibers to clean most types of stains.
2. White Vinegar – Vinegar is excellent to use for absorbing stains & cleaning on
wool and all other fibers.
