What to Expect in Handmade Rugs
What to Expect in Handmade Rugs
- Our rugs are each made by skilled artisan weavers.
- Irregular weaving is part of its handmade, inherent beauty & is the authentic quality you are paying for that cannot be found in machine-tufted products.
- Variances are inevitable and not considered manufacturer defects.
COLOR: Color dye lots can have up to 10-15% variation.
ODOR: Rugs are wrapped and sealed for long-distance shipping and may trap yarn/dye moisture odors that will dissipate within a few weeks.
CREASES: Rugs are typically folded & rolled for long distance. Creases may occur which should relax within a few weeks. Vacuum and foot traffic will help rug fibers relax faster. Reverse rolling rug overnight may also help speed up the process.
SPROUTS/SHEDDING: Loose fibers & sprouts are a normal part of the break-in process for handmade rugs. After installation, it is considered very normal for unsettled loose yarns to come up, or sprout, from the pile. Vacuuming will help remove all unsettled loose yarns. For sprouts, use a small pair of scissors to snip them off even with the pile height. Do not yank the yarn fibers out, as this can cause a deterioration of the backing.

Inherent Beauty of Handmade Rugs
Our rugs are made by skilled & generational-trained artisan weavers.
It is the irregular weaving found in handmade rug products that contribute to the inherent beauty & authentic texture you are paying for that cannot be found in machine tufted products. Variances
are inevitable and not considered manufacturer defects. -
Do NOT Vacuum with a Beater Bar on Handmade Rugs
Proper vacuuming is essential for the long-term care & maintenance:
- Vacuuming a handmade rug with a beater bar or strong suction (Dyson) will cause permanent yarn damage & distortion.
- Vacuum at least once a week & across the traffic pattern to help prevent matting.
- Maintain rug longevity by rotating every 6 months & professionally clean every 12 months.
-
Rug Pads
We custom cut to fit the right premium rug pad needed for each rug type based on it's construction & quality, rug use & rug size.

Buy Fiber ProtectionWe highly suggest Fiber Protection on all white/light rugs - regardless of fiber.
Why? It seals fibers to easily clean daily dirt, soil & stains with minimal effort. Sealed fibers better release 'echo stains' commonly found on white fibers (ie. red wine).
